Affordable Moving Experts You Can Rely On

Posted on by

Properly packing your paintings is essential to ensure their safety and protection during a move. Here are the steps to pack paintings for moving:

  1. Assess your paintings: Before packing, carefully examine each painting and note its size, medium, and fragility. This will help you determine the appropriate packing materials and techniques.
  2. Gather necessary supplies: Collect acid-free tissue paper, bubble wrap, packing tape, corner protectors, cardboard or foam boards, and sturdy boxes that can accommodate the size of your paintings.
  3. Prepare the paintings: Remove any hanging hardware and clean the surface of each painting. Cover the front with acid-free tissue paper to protect it from scratches.
  4. Wrap the paintings: Start by wrapping the painting in a layer of bubble wrap, ensuring that the bubbles face outward. Wrap it securely but not too tightly, allowing room for cushioning.
  5. Protect the corners and edges: Attach corner protectors made of foam or cardboard to each corner of the wrapped painting. This provides added protection for vulnerable areas.
  6. Reinforce with cardboard or foam boards: Sandwich the wrapped painting between two pieces of cardboard or foam boards, securing them together with packing tape. This adds rigidity and stability.
  7. Select the appropriate box: Choose a box that is slightly larger than the painting, allowing space for additional padding. Opt for a sturdy box that can withstand the weight and protect the artwork.
  8. Pad the box: Line the bottom of the box with packing material such as bubble wrap or foam. This creates a cushioning layer to absorb any impact during transit.
  9. Place the painting in the box: Carefully position the wrapped and protected painting in the box, ensuring it fits snugly. Fill any empty spaces with additional packing material to prevent movement.
  10. Seal and label the box: Close the box securely with packing tape, making sure there are no openings. Label the box as “Fragile” and “Artwork – Handle with Care” to alert movers. Indicate the correct orientation, such as “This Side Up,” to prevent mishandling.

By following these steps, you can pack your Painting securely and minimize the risk of damage during the move. Properly protecting and packaging your artwork will help ensure its safe arrival at the new location.
